Aug 27, 2006. The following interesting birds have been reported in Spokane
County during the past twelve days. (no year birds)

Since Aug 20, I've not seen any positive or negative reports for the Spokane
Valley GREEN HERON.

Warbler migration continues, but seems to be spotty. On Aug 25, 16 Warblers
were banded at Turnbull NWR (12 WILSON'S, 1 MACGILLIVRAY'S, 2
ORANGE-CROWNED, 1 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT). Also banded was one juvenile
LINCOLN'S SPARROW for the first report of the season. Another LINCOLN'S
SPARROW was near Cheney Aug 26.

Banders along the Little Spokane River, also Aug 25, captured a
PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER which they were somehow able to rule out
Cordilleran. Also banded were 2 RED-EYED VIREOS. Nearby was a LEAST
FLYCATCHER.

On Aug 17, a juvenile LEAST FLYCATCHER was banded at Turnbull NWR which
should confirm successful nesting. A male sang at this spot for weeks, a
female with a brood patch was captured twice & now a juv.

The first of season WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was on Mt Spokane Aug 26. Two
more were along the Spokane River Aug 27. (All juvs).

Two ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were along the Spokane River Aug 27, as was an out
of habitat WESTERN KINGBIRD.

COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have begun flocking prior to migration. 13 were over my
Cheney place Aug 27. There is some concern about this species, so I'll add
that nesting numbers at my place seem normal. They are very tough to
census.

At Turnbull NWR Aug 22 was an impressive flock of 36 YELLOWLEGS (about
one-third GREATER) were on a very small mudhole. It's been almost 11 weeks
since we've had a real rain!
