While working in my upper field - which overlooks the Rushing River - this
afternoon I watched a Belted Kingfisher take three small fish fly back to
his perch preen and repeat. I heard him call and start downriver when
suddenly, in a flash, he squawked loudly and there was a puff of feathers.
I watched as a Northern Goshawk carried the limp Kingfisher back to the very
branch the Kingfisher had been hunting from and proceded to eat the former
owner. I wish I were near enough the water to see if the pieces of bird
being dropped back into the water were consumed by fish! What a great day
to be outside!

I also had Black-throated Grey, Orange-crowned, Yellow, and a Townsends
warbler in the trees during the day and I could hear but never saw both
Red-eyed and Warbling Vireos and Ruffed Grouse.
