Hi,
I happened to be on the phone when, as usual, I started watching my birds. We have quite a nice number of both Rufous and Anna's hummingbirds, and several Bushtits, and Red Crossbills, as well as Evening Grosbeaks on occasion.
To my surprise, while watching several birds on this poor little Aphid tree, I saw a Cassin's Vireo. I have heard them on occasion, but this is the first really good look at one, and on this tree.
Our front 'garden' is looking much better, all the beds are in place, and the bark is going down. I have a number of new plants the hummingbirds love, (thus the reason for so many) Cardinal Flower, or Scarlet Lobelia, grows tall, with beautiful red tubular flowers, and are a good perennial, the love the sun, but do okay in some shade as well. They are on sale in a lot of nursery's, it seems they don't sell out by the end of the season. (more for us)
It has been well worth all the trouble and money to get this thing going. The last thing will be the flagstone patio, and waterfall, that comes next year if we get the rest saved up.
