Today, Penny Koyama, Steve Dang, and I birded our way north to Stanwood.
We stopped at Spencer Island, but the small numbers of shorebirds
present were quite distant from the path, so we couldn't pick out
anything that might have been the possible Long-toed Stint described by
Guy McWethy and Greg Toffic.

We spent most of our time walking the dikes at Port Susan. Waterfowl
and shorebird numbers were low, but we did see some interesting birds.
In among the expected dowitchers, yellowlegs, phalaropes, peep, etc., we
found:

1 Short-eared Owl (strangely, very high up in a kettle of 10 Turkey
Vultures, and calling ocasionally)
1 American Golden-Plover
1 Red Knot
3 Pectoral Sandpiper
1 Stilt Sandpiper
