Hi,
When I said the first I have seen a Cassin's Vireo, I meant in my yard, not first time ever!!!!
A couple of people asked about the Scarlet Lobelia (Cardinal Flower), it is a perinnial, can be planted in wet soil, as well as normal. I have read somewhere they grow in marshes in the Mid-west; although I don't remember seeing any. I used to have them in our pond. I have also made cuttings and the new roots grow easily in water, so they are eas to reproduce, and share with neighbors!!!
They grow to about 18" tall in normal conditions, but can be trimmed back, and bloom in late summer. There are several variations, and it may go by another name, like 'Rasberry' Lobelia, depending on foilage and shade of flower.
By the way, haven't seen the Cooper's hawk in several days, so maybe she has moved on....(course I haven't been home much either)
