Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 31. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 23 a female ORCHARD ORIOLE was reported from Redmond.

BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were reported during the week from the North Spit
of Coos Bay, the Siltcoos Estuary, and Fern Ridge Reservoir. The first
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE movement is now passing through the state.

On August 28 ten COMMON TERNS were at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River.
The next day over 5000 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were at the mouth of the
Siuslaw. On August 25 an AMERICAN REDSTART and a BOBOLINK were on Cascade
Head north of Lincoln City.

Up to eight WHITE PELICANS were on Sauvie Island during the week. On August
26 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland. About
500 PIED-BILLED GREBES were there August 29. On August 25 a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH was netted at St. Cloud Recreation Area near Skamania,
Washington. A GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was seen August 28 in Northeast
Portland. Ten COMMON TERNS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir August 24. A
LONG-BILLED CURLEW, a MARBLED GODWIT, and 39 WHITE PELICANS were there
August 27.

On August 25 a WHIMBREL was at Hatfield Lake near Bend. A singing BEWICK?S
WREN was seen August 24 at Fields.
