the first thing to do is to wrap it in a paper towel or napkin, put it into
a zip lock bag, then on a slip of paper put the location and date and
species of the bird, then put it in your freezer. Then contact the Burke
museum to see if they want the bird, often they want local birds in order to
trade with other institutions. If they don't want it, and you have the
energy check with the PLU museum, if nobody is interested, take it outside
and bury it. Technically its illegal to possess birds, but holding them for
a institution is OK and the game department is very not interested in
hassling people for what one biologists called, ditty birds. Now a
peregrine falcon, that's a different story......

Hey Tweeters,
Yesterday I found a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet as I was coming out of the post
office. Apparently it had flown into a window moments after I walked inside.
I took it home hoping it was only stunned and I would be able to release it,
but it never recovered.

What's the best way to deal with this situation? Call WA Fish and Wildlife?
Donate it to a museum or college for a study skin? Any suggestions are
appreciated.
