I stopped at the Green River Natural Resources Area, aka "Kent Ponds" on my
way home from the regular Rainier Audubon Thursday bird walk at Nisqually
NWR, and observed a Short-Eared Owl hunting for about 15 minutes over the
tall grass field. I'm not sure if this is a common sighting there or not; if
so, it is a great testament to the ability of a relatively small preserved
habitat to support birds at the top of the food chain.
