Hi Tweeters,

Did a cruise through the Kent Valley yesterday and saw
2 adult and 4 juvenile Trumpeter Swans in a cut corn
field. They were visible from West Valley Rd N of
Smith Brothers. Better looks from Frager Rd accessed
from W Valley. At first I thought there was 3 juv but
saw 4 from this vantage point.

I also got to hear/see some early courtship behavior
from Red-tailed Hawks. I heard one fly calling
a low-pitched, short kind of barking call. It then
landed in a small evergreen tree. When it landed I
saw movement in the tree, a second hawk was perched
inconspicously just below where the calling hawk
landed. Above these two soared a third RT Hawk.

In the Smith Brothers field I saw approx 3-400 Dunlin.
The crows would occasionaly chase them. The puddles
here were mostly frozen with some open water, fun to
watch the gulls try to maneuver on ice and around the
edges where they would break through.
