I participated in a bird hike and dinner for volunteers at the
Ridgefield NWR in Clark County on Sunday, Dec. 3. I was among the group
that got to go out to Batchelor Island, which is a unit of the refuge
that is normally closed to the public. During our too brief visit there
we saw several ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS including a gorgeous adult dark morph
bird. There were at least two WHITE-TAILED KITES and an adult NORTHERN
SHRIKE along with the expected CACKLING GEESE and SANDHILL CRANES.
