Dear Tweeters,

Thanks to Barry for letting me know about the Swamp
Sparrow. He and Marvin had seen the bird not three
minutes before I walked up, yesterday at Hayton
Preserve.

It took me over ninety minutes to relocate the bird.
It was staying in the damp grass along the slough, out
where a little peninsula of dike allows one to walk
over to the right (instead of walking to the left and
coming the the gate blocking off a continued walk
toward Wylie Slough.

Later on, Howard Armstrong and I tried to find the
bird. This was toward dusk. We could not find it.

Also at Hayton Preserve right after Barry and Marvin
left was a single Snowy Owl, my first this season in
Skagit. Unfortunately, two people walked right up on
it, and it flew over, apparently making landfall at
Camano Island. It would be interesting to see if this
bird might be at English Boom or thereabouts.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
