Tweeters,

This afternoon, I refound the MUTE SWAN reported yesterday by
James Duemmel just south of Ferndale. The Mute Swan was
with a loose flock of swans (246 TRUMPETER and 11 TUNDRA
SWANS) which were feeding in pastures on both sides of Ulrick Road,
near the intersection with Imhoff Road.

Not far to the SW were two more large flocks of TRUMPETER SWANS--
243 on the E side of Haxton Way, south of the Silver Reef Casino,
and 187 on the W side of Haxton Way about a mile farther north
(north of Slater Road and south of Lampman Road). This makes a
staggering total of 676 Trumpeter Swans (plus the 11 Tundra Swans
and the Mute Swan), all in a small area of the Lummi Flats.

Near the first flock of swans which contained the Mute Swan were
37 geese which appeared to all be CACKLING GEESE.

Although I tallied 33 species on the Lummi Flats, nothing else I saw
seemed unusual. Raptors, as usual, were in good numbers:

Bald Eagle 2 (1 ad., 1 imm.)
Northern Harrier 9
Red-tailed Hawk 5
Rough-legged Hawk 1
Peregrine Falcon 1
No owls (dangit!)

Good luck and good birding,
