Subject: [Tweeters] Binocular Selection

Hello Tweeters,

The new issue of Consumer Reports (January ?07) has a brief
article (3/4 of a page) entitled ?A Close Look at Binoculars? (page 9).
This includes a comparative review of some 8-power and 10-power bins.
Obviously, this note does not approach the detail of the twin articles in
the ABA magazine ?Birding? in successive issues last summer (May/June and
July/August issues). Either or both of these references may be if interest
to anyone looking for a first pair, or an upgrade pair, of bins.

With respect to a gift pair of binoculars or a scope, I strongly
recommend a gift certificate rather than a selection of the gift by the
donor. Binoculars, in particular, are such a personal choice and preference
(size, weight, magnification, field size, use with eyeglasses, etc.,) that
this is best left to the recipient. But steer the recipient towards the
above mentioned resource articles for assistance.

And good
birding,

Fran
Wood (male)
