Today 8 of us enjoyed a pleasant but cold walk at Nisqually. Lots of
clouds, no rain, and a little sun...also a few birds.

Highlight of the day was a VARIED THRUSH on the side of the trail out to the
ring dike that gave us great looks. And behind him was a FOX SPARROW
scratching up a storm. Another highlight was a leucistic ROBIN out near McAllister
Creek. An awful lot of white on his head made him really stand out.

Heading the waterfowl list were about 60 SNOW GEESE. 40 or so were out
behind the twin barns and another 20 were near the entrance as we exited the
refuge. We had a good array of ducks but not a lot of any one species.

Raptors were everywhere including BALD EAGLES, NORTHERN HARRIERS, RED-TAILED
HAWKS, and a COOPER'S HAWK and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK. No owls or falcons
were seen today.

We had plenty of sparrows including SONG, FOX, LINCOLN'S, GOLDEN CROWNED,
WHITE CROWNED, and SAVANNAH. We also saw JUNCOS and TOWHEES.

All told we saw 48 species with nothing new for the year.

The only mammal we saw was a HARBOR SEAL near the Nisqually River overlook.
