Interestingly, just yesterday, the 14th, same as Tim, I did a double-take
when I thought I saw a Golden-crowned Kinglet feeding on the ground. I
don't know that I've ever seen this before. Unfortunately, because I was
leading a Salmon program for a group of 5th graders, I couldn't focus on the
birds too much. There is a small chance that another member of the small
flock of birds was actually on the ground, but I do think I saw a kinglet or
2 on the ground. They were otherwise feeding much lower in the shrubbery
than usual (within 1 - 2 feet of the ground).

This afternoon in my backyard here in Elma while the winds were blowing
hard I noticed some very small birds working the ground beneath some tall
firs we have. I was surprised to see they were Golden-crowned Kinglets. I
don't think I have ever seen kinglets on the ground. They too must have had
enough of this wind already.
