Monday afternoon I did some brief birding in Lewis County, most notably
along the Goodrich Road site along the Chehalis River near the Thurston
County line. There were several shorebird species at the pond near the end
of the road now. The best bird was a LESSER YELLOWLEGS with 3 Greaters.
Other shorebirds included Dunlin, Black-bellied Plover, Killdeer, and 4
Least Sandpipers. There was also a Slate-colored Junco in this area. Along
the small local road that takes of North (NW?) from Goodrich Road just after
crossing the slough, there were 8 Trumpeter Swans with Canada and Cackling
Geese. In the Big Hanaford Area there were a couple of Tundra Swans at one
of the Steam Plant Ponds.
