Sunday December 24, 2006:
Two PEREGRINE FALCONS were spotted near the Parksville on Highway 19.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
Ten birders found the following thirty-one species: DOUBLED-CRESTED
CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA GOOSE, AMERICAN COOTS, RING-NECKED DUCK,
BUFFLEHEAD, MALLARDS, HOODED MERGANSER, COOPERS HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK,
MERLIN, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, ROCK PIGEON, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLER'S JAY,
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, MARSH WREN, AMERICAN ROBIN, VARIED THRUSH,
NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVIN, EUROPEAN STARLING, SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG
SPARROW, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD,
HOUSE FINCH, PINE SISKIN, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and HOUSE SPARROWS.
Friday December 22:
BALD EAGLES, COOPER'S HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK and two SHORT-EARED OWLS were
seen at the Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
A GREAT HORNED OWL was seen in the Rocky Point area of Nanaimo.
A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen off the point at Deep Bay.
Two EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in the 7500 block of Superior Road in Lower
Lantzville.
Four EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen along Milton Street near the old firehall.
One RING-NECKED PHEASANT was spotted flying across the Save-on-Foods parking
lot at the Country Club Mall in Nanaimo.
Sunday December 17:
Two NORTHERN HARRIERS, a SHORT-EARED OWL, four BRANT GEESE and seven
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen at the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.
Friday December 15:
A NORTHERN FLICKER with a red moustache and a red crescent on the nape of
his neck (a hybrid red, yellow-shafted bird) was seen in Royston.
