Hello Tweeters ,
I am fortune to have access to read Thomas Nuttall's Fieldguide published 1896.There are two Vol.1 "The Land Birds.2 Vol.Game and Water Birds.
I only want to share the Preface what Montague Chamberlain wrote about this work of Nuttel's.
The publication of a new edition of this work has enabled me to correct some errors which occurred in the former edition, and to add some recently discovered facts of distribution and habits. We have yet much to learn about the birds of this country, but when it becomes better known that bird-life displays much that is of rare interest to lovers of nature and to the thoughtful ,contemplative mind,- that the lives of this graceful creatures are analogous to our own; that they have there periods of infantile helplessness, and are trained for future self-reliance; that the have there love affairs, select there mates, build there homes, and foster their offspring with almost human instincts,- we may safely predict an ever- increasing interest in the study of the lives, and the solving of many problems which baffle the student of to-day.
Bar Harbor,Maine,September ,1896
I wonder if any of you birder had read some of Nuttal's work. This two Vol. are in the best condition and have one of the best drawing I ever saw of birds.
