Hi Tweets,

My apologies for the delayed posting. My partner Marissa and I had an unexpected,
but welcome, Christmas Day visitor to our yard yesterday - an immature Northern
Goshawk! Taking advantage of the fine weather mid-day I was taking our cat out for
some fresh air when I heard some crows raising a ruckus. Looking above me into
our giant Bigleaf Maple I saw a large bird perched about 20-30 feet above me.
I quickly went inside to get Marissa and some binoculars and when we came out
we observed the Goshawk as it surveyed our yard and then flew off to the north.
I got in my car and tried to follow it through the neighborhood but never found it again.

We live in West Seattle, uphill from Lincoln Park, actually closer to 35th Ave. The
bird flew north towards SW Holden Street so other Seattle birders in the area
should keep their eyes peeled - maybe someone doing the upcoming CBC
will luck out and find it Saturday.

good birding,

Jim Flynn
