Tweets,
At Point No Point on 12/26 I did see Bill Shelmerdine and brother Tim from
Oregon around noon, but after 1.5 hours no LB Murrelet or TB Murre. I
arrived at the same time the rainclouds did, so conditions were pretty
miserable. Later in the afternoon I did see the BH Gull near Ft. Ward SP on
Bainbridge Is. It was quite active flying low into the wind and feeding
along the surface, then circling back to the south end of the vessel and
repeating the drill--usually alone or in company with one Boneparte's. The
barrel chest was quite evident in flight, as well as the dark trailing wing
edge. The best view was when it landed on a blue-green rope near the water
alongside four or five Bonaparte's. The dark flare onto the crown and the
orangey color in the bill were visible despite the low light and heavy
rainfall. The gull never left the vessel; without a scope the ID would have
been impossible.
Good birding!
