Thanks for posting, Connie. David and I drove out to Elliott at 2:50 p.m.,
got the Whooper after 5 min of scanning in the rain, watched it and the Emp
Goose for 10 or 15, and are already home. A hint to those who might try a
late afternoon run on these birds--the traffic on Hwy 9 to Snohomish is
horrendous. On the way back, it was ok for us, but was one long line of
cars, stopped at the 2 or 3 lights along the way. It was already building
on our way out, but that during that half hour there was a traffic
transformation. By the way, the swans were much more spread out than when
we were there at noon. The Whooper had its head in the mud much of the
time, so we may have missed it the first time. In fact, when I first
spotted it, I did so by just the back of the bill coming a little bit in and
out of the mud, much like a flashing yellow caution light. We are so
pleased to have found it on this second try and feel like an itch has been
scratched!
