Dec. 16th was the date of our CBC here in Bridgeport, Douglas Co., North
Central Washington -- east side of the mountains. Computer has been down,
so sorry this is late.

We had 19 people help with our count this year (our most ever) and we saw a
total of 39,334 individual birds, a new record. AND we had 5 new species
which gave us a count of 100 species! As far as I know, we are the first
count around here to reach the 100 mark. Great work everyone. Thanks ever
so much for helping.

Our five new species were Gyrfalcon, Wild Turkey, Sage Thrasher,
Golden-crowned Sparrow and Harris' Sparrow.

Twenty species set new record high numbers: I'll give the new number first;
old record in parenthesis.

Pied-billed Grebe 103 (63); Horned Grebe 95(29); Greater White-fronted
Goose 3 (1); Ruddy 1,363 (992); Cooper's Hawk 10 (9); Rough-legged Hawk
12 (6); Am. Kestrel 29 (21); Merlin 5 (4); Gray Partridge 90 (57);
Ring-necked Pheasant 38 (32); Am. Coot 20,012 (18,217); Black-capped
Chickadee 66 (43); Red-breasted Nuthatch 19 (8); Pygmy Nuthatch 44
(28); Golden-crowned Kinglet 18 (15); Varied Thrush 25 (18);
White-crowned Sparrow 1,636 (891); Oregon Junco 998 (982); Pine Grosbeak
14 (6); and Red Crossbill 64 (60). We also had 6 species tie our high
records: Short-eared Owl (1); Clark's Nutcracker (2); March Wren (3);
Am. Pipit (1); Hermit Thrush (1) and N. Shrike (15).

This was our 11th year of counting, and we have now seen a total of 134
