I'd like to offer my deepest apologies and embarassment that the YardBirdRace leaderboard and press release is currently not available on the web at this critical moment in the race. I will get this fixed no earlier than Jan 3-- sorry-- but will work hard to improve the site and situation in the future.

Notice to YBR participants: I have just sent out prize info now to all participants. There are a few participants who aren't on my email list I believe, but I'm unable to check because I don't have access to the site at all at the moment. If you are a particpant this year and didn't get an email listing prize options, it was a mistake and please email me.

BREAKING NEWS:

Seattle Greenbelt champion SAM TERRY (2005 Leschi) has entered in Urban Yard/type and is setting a new record in the Central District with 29 including PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER & WESTERN WOOD PEWEE, among others.

A new entry with 46 species so far from Greenwood/North Park in R will be some kind of winner when the leaderboard comes back to life. FRANK BROWN has some great highlights for a city list: A BARN OWL spent a day in the backyard in November, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW & BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK are on the list, and BALD EAGLES which flew over the house twice: 4th of July and Memorial Day. Note to Ben Franklin: Turkeys couldn't have pulled that off.


Capitol Hill is back in the race for the second year now with a great new entry in Urban from THOMAS MANSFIELD with 36 including RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER, PURPLE FINCH & SOOTY FOX SPARROW.

DAWN BAILEY from Eatonville gets no YBR boost at all from seeing a GREY-HEADED JUNCO even though it's rarer than most species on yardbirdlists, because it's only a subspecies. Oh wait, maybe YBR will cave here a little: in the event of a tie in Eatonville, you get the win, Dawn!
