Tweeters,

What a great day to live in Washington! After sitting in the fog and
waiting for an hour and a half, we saw the WHOOPER SWAN just west of Hwy 9
and South of Marsh Road as the fog lifted about 10:30, a few minutes later
we saw the EMPEROR GOOSE from the same location. Patrick Sullivan was the
first to spot the Swan when the fog lifted. We then headed out to Fort
Warden SP on Bainbridge Island. There was a group of birders there
searching without luck for the Black-Headed Gull near the fish farm. We
stuck around after the group left and where finally rewarded with distant
views of the BLACK-HEADED GULL just off the south-west end of the far fish
rearing pens. We observed the gull in-flight and on the water for 10-15
minutes before it ducked down behind the far fish pen. I was a little
hesitant about the identification until I got home and checked two of my
European field guides. This sure beats the heck out of winter birding in
Iowa!
