Sunday December 31:
The Sunday bird walk went to Neck Point Park in Nanaimo. Seventeen birders
found the following thirty-nine species. PACIFIC LOONS, COMMON LOON, WESTERN
GREBE, RED-NECKED GREBE, HORNED GREBE, BRANDT'S CORMORANT, DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT, PELAGIC CORMORANT, SURF SCOTER, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, BUFFLE HEAD,
HARLEQUIN DUCK, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, BALD EAGLE, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK,
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER, BLACK TURNSTONE, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, MEW GULL,
AMERICAN HERRING GULL, MARBLED MURRELETS, DOWNY WOODPECKER, HAIRY
WOODPECKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER, NORTHERN FLICKER, ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD,
NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVEN, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCH, BEWICK'S WREN, WINTER WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLET, SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO and HOUSE FINCH

Saturday December 30:
EVENING GROSBEAKS and a BARRED OWL are frequently seen in the 300 block of
Howard Avenue in Nanaimo.
Six to eight RED CROSSBILLS were seen along Sheriffs Way in the Departure
Bay area of Nanaimo.
A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was seen along Parkridge Place in Qualicum Beach.
A LINCOLIN'S SPARROW was spotted in the Harewood area of Nanaimo.
A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER is coming to suet feeders along Boundry Crescent in
Nanaimo.
Over 200 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen along Hill Road in Cedar/Yellow Point.

Friday December 29:
A RED-TAILED HAWK was seen perched along Drake Street in Nanaimo.
A MALLARD/BLACK DUCK hybrid is on Brookwood Marsh, in north Nanaimo. An
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was seen at the corner of the marsh near Bullrush
Crescent in Nanaimo.
A COOPER'S HAWK was seen perched in a Maple Tree and an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD
was seen doing territorial power dives over Fairwinds in Nanoose Bay.

Thursday December 28:
A SNOW GOOSE was seen at the Big Qualicum River Estuary near Bowser.
A CANVASBACK DUCK was spotted at the Duncan sewage Lagoons and a pair of
EURASIAN WIGEONS were seen at Somenos Marsh in Duncan.
A WESTERN GREBE and a YELLOW-BILLED LOON were seen off shore at Piper's
Lagoon in Nanaimo.
Two CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, two COMMON RAVENS, one BALD EAGLE, nine
CANADA GEESE, one MALLARD, two STELLER'S JAYS, six DARK-EYED JUNCOS, one
SPOTTED TOWHEE, one SONG SPARROW and an AMERICAN ROBIN were seen in the 2300
block of Stobart Road in Nanaimo.

Wednesday December 27:
Eighteen EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in San Pariel area of Parksville.
ANNA's HUMMINGBIRDS are visiting feeders in the 3700 block of Jinglepot Road
in Nanaimo.

Tuesday December 26:
A SNOW BUNTING was seen in the 7000 block of Aulds Road in Nanaimo.
Over 300 BALD EAGLES and twenty TRUMPETER SWANS were seen in the Little
Qualicum River Estuary area of Qualicum Beach.

Monday December 25:
Six PINE GROSBEAK were seen along Townsite Road near the Chinese Cemetary in
Nanaimo.

Sunday December 24:
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was spotted at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.

Meet at the Bird Store at 9:00 a.m. or at the parking lot at Bowen Park on
Wall Street across from the Curling Club, at about 9:20 a.m.

The Backyard Wildbird & Nature Store in Nanaimo is pleased to host a weekly
bird walk in the Parksville/Qualicum Beach area on Wednesday mornings,
starting on January 10, 2007. We will be ?Fair Weather Birders?-- rain
and/or heavy winds will deter us--but we will plan a walk for every week.
Everyone is welcome to bring their binoculars and join us for a morning of
birding.
We will leave The Parksville Civic and Technology Centre on Jensen Avenue
and McCarter Avenue at 9 a.m. every Wednesday, and go to a different area
in and around Parksville/Qualicum Beach each week.
On January 10, 2007 we are going to the Englishman River Estuary, Shelly
Road side .We will meet at the east parking lot of The Parksville Civic and
Technology Centre at Jensen Avenue and McCarter Avenue at 9:00 am in
Parksville or at the end of Shelly Road ( Ocean Side of Highway 19a) at
about 9:10 am.
