Subject: [Tweeters] Jeepers creepers

I torqued my back a bit yesterday planting trees so I parked myself in a
chair to read. The usual mixed flock of feeder birds came in for their
mid-morning snack and they were more interesting than the book. There are
juncos, bushtits, black-capped and chestnut backed chickadees, red breasted
nuthatch and both kinglets. This group seems to stick together and show up
all at once, dividing up the feeder area, each to its own preferences.
Today they were joined by 4 creepers, all of which would hitch their way up
the cedar tree, then flutter down like leaves back to the bottom. They
seemed very accomodating of each other, a couple times one passed another on
the truck with no apparent fuss. At one point two hitched over sideways
towards each other and then stopped a few inches apart. One kind of poked
its bill, woodpecker-like on the bark and I wondered if it was some kind of
behaviorial signal. Then they went their separate ways.
