I was surprised to hear from my mother recently that the local Carolina
Wrens around her house in New Jersey have started eating sunflower seeds
from her feeders (in addition to suet). So it?s not just Bewick?s that do
this.

Subject: [Tweeters] seed-eating wren

I've just been watching a Bewick's Wren taking small bits of shelled
sunflower seeds from a tube feeder. Chickadees of both species and
Red-breasted Nuthatches visit it all the time, but this is the first time
I've seen the wren. The seed feeder is hanging next to a suet feeder that
one or more wrens use all the time, though. Birds often learn by observing
other birds that there's something of interest (= edible), and this one
decided to try it! It's amazing that no matter how long you have been a
student of Mother Nature, she'll surprise you again and again.
