Subject: [Tweeters] Kent white-winged gull

Hello Tweeters,

Yesterday the Kent white-winged gull was in its usual spot at the
intersection of 212th St and 59th Place from about 2:30 to 2:45. Also there
were a few Thayer?s, one Herring, one Western, and a good assortment of
Glaucous-winged and hybrids. I?m not going to try to add anything to the
debate on this bird, except to echo that I don?t think it easily fits into
what I expect from Glaucous or Iceland.

I looked for the Tufted Duck at several spots, including about an hour
scoping the fields between 212th and 204th (where the water is now almost
above the level of 204th). The only non-Ring-necked Aythas I found here
were one Canvasback and one Lesser Scaup. I also checked several other
places further south along the Green River, including Smith Brothers, with
no luck.

Had a nice treat around 3:45 at the Kent Ponds, as two Short-eared Owls got
up and active while it was still quite light out. One of them circled up
several hundred feet above the ground in a prolonged aerial dogfight with a
crow. Eventually, both birds were willing to leave the other alone, and the
owl quickly returned to the ground.

Good birding,

Matt Dufort
