Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday February 9. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

There are now at least three BLUE JAYS in the Rogue Valley, at Talent,
Central Point, and along Tou Ville Road near Upper Table Rock. The FALCATED
DUCK was relocated during the week at a pond along Hwy 99W north of the Belt
Line Hwy in Eugene. It remains on the pond but is often hidden by
vegetation.

Despite construction work at the South Jetty of the Columbia River three
SNOWY OWLS can still be seen there. One is still at Yaquina Bay and one is
at the Eugene Airport. On February 7 one was along Hwy 97 in northern
Klamath County.

Noticeable migrations were seen during the week of TURKEY VULTURES and TREE
and BARN SWALLOWS.

Two PARAKEET AUKLETS were found February 6 dead on the beach about five
miles south of Yaquina Bay. On February 6 a PELAGIC CORMORANT was seen again
along the Columbia River near the mouth of the Sandy River east of Portland.
Apparently it is wintering with the local DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS. After
being scarce all winter a large flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS is now being seen
near OMSI in Portland. On February 5 a SURF SCOTER was at Scoggins Valley
Park south of Forest Grove, and three BARN SWALLOWS were over the Fernhill
Wetlands.

The FERRUGINOUS HAWK is still being seen along Sauerkraut Road in Airlie.
Another was seen February 8 along Hwy 99W north of Monmouth. A bright adult
RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER is being seen near the Headquarters building at Finley
NWR. The SWAINSON?S HAWK is still at Alvadore north of Fern Ridge Reservoir.
On February 5 several thousand DUNLIN and 107 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were
east of the Eugene Airport. On February 8 a noticeable movement of STELLER?S
JAYS was noted in Springfield. That day over 300 WOOD DUCKS were on the
McKenzie River in Springfield.

On February 5 a BEWICK?S WREN was near Sisters. On February 8 a flock of 18
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was in Bend.

That?s it for this week.
