Hi Tweeters,

Today I saw a male robin courting a female. First
time observation for me. The male was assuming a very
horizontal position and was vocalizing the whole time,
mostly those metalic echoing type calls for lack of
better description. He moved all along the branches
of the tree about 3 feet above the female. He would
stop just above her and then start moving around in a
circuit. I saw a few tail spreads. He was really
putting on a show.

I use the Birds of North America online to read about
behavior a lot. A similar display was described by
Audobon but on the ground, in addition a gaping
display was described. I didn't know at the time I
was possibly seeing something really special. Has
anyone else witnessed this display?
