Caren,

Looks like the one we spotted, alright. We had better looks at the primaries and could clearly see the string of white spots. And the times seem to match as well. Our bird flew into the north end of Coulen Park at around 5:14 PM.

i've posted a few shots of what was believed to be a candidate for the
slaty-backed gull at the cedar river outflow, seen between 1645 and 1710
this evening... it was the only gull with this dark a mantle, yellow eyes,
grey/pink legs, tiny spot underbeak at tip, and possibly-correct markings
for the primaries (he faced us the entire time)... at about 1710, something
spooked the flock, and while half returned, this particular bird did not...
not a few minutes later, rolan nelson reported an SBGU at gene coulon...

anyway, if it is, great. if not, well, it's a confusing bird (grin)...

also posted: a lone sandpiper of unknown vintage, also seen at the outflow
about an hour earlier, and some cool swan shots at debays / johnson swan
reserve saturday morning...
