Date: February 12, 2006

Location: Yakima County, Washington

I spent the morning birding the Yakama Indian Reservation including

the Toppenish National Wildlife Refuge. I saw one very early Say's

Phoebe along Pumphouse Rd. three Trumpeter Swans near Mud Lake, and

the largest flock (over 50)of Bohemian Waxwings that I've ever seen

in Yakima County. They were feeding on the corms of an elm tree where

Toppenish Creek crosses Lateral "C" Rd. There was also a lone Greater

White-fronted Goose in a mixed flock of Canada and Cackling Geese

along Pupmhouse Rd. The drain pipes along Marion Drain Rd. produced

two Barn Owls trying to catch a little of the warm morning sun in the

pipe openings.
