Date: Feb 13 21:13:37 2006
From: Michael Hobbs - birdmarymoor at verizon.net
Most direct route from Seattle:
I-90 east to George
Exit, following signs to Ephrata
Continue east from Ephrata on SR-28
At Soap Lake, head north on SR-17 to US-2
Head east on US-2 past Coulee City, Wilbur, and Creston
Turn left onto Miles-Creston Rd., 19 miles to Miles
Head north on SR-25 for about 35 miles.
You will pass the Gifford-Inchelium Ferry. Another quarter-mile or so on
SR-25 will take you to Gifford Campground on the left. Follow the drive NW
down as far to the north as you can to a parking lot near the water. The
woodpeckers have been north and northeast of this last parking lot. Just
park and walk through the trees listening for tapping.
It's about a 4 hour drive if you go straight through.
Good luck.
