Re: [Tweeters] Proper writing of bird common namesTo add further, unless I missed it, proper names in mammals, insects, and plants, etc, would also be captilized, even thought the actual type of mammal, insect, plant, etc, isn't. For example, Douglas squirrel, Townsend's chipmunk, Kentucky bluegrass, etc., where as pine marten, ponderosa pine, etc, wouldn't be.

As others have said previously, I also capitalize bird names when writing them, since I learned that while taking college courses and for submitting manuscripts to scientific journals for publication.
