Tuesday February 14: 2006
Over 100 TRUMPETER SWANS were seen at the Ugly Dwarf Meadows near the ESSO
gas station at Nanoose Bay.
VARIED THRUSH, AMERICAN ROBINS, BEWICK'S WREN, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES are visiting feeders in the backyard at the
Backyard Wildbird and Nature Store on Metral Drive in Nanaimo.

Monday February 13:
Thirty RED CROSSBILLS were seen at the top of Fir Trees along Kaye Road
behind the Government Weigh Scales in Parksville.
An AMERICAN KESTREL was spotted on a Hydro line near the ESSO gas station at
Nanoose Bay.
A PURPLE FINCH was seen in the 200 block of Dawkins Lane in Nanaimo.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was sighted in the 2000 Bluebell Terrace in Nanaimo.
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was visiting feeders in the 5300 block of Hammond Bay
Road in Nanaimo.

Sunday February 12:
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was spotted at the west side of Neck Point Park, on
the Rocky Point, beyond Last Beach, in Nanaimo.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to Nanaimo River Estuary, twenty-four birders
found thirty-eight species. Among the highlites were a SNOWY OWL, two
SHORT-EARED OWLS, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and over twenty WESTERN MEADOWLARKS (the
meadowlarks were seen in the field next to the parking lot)

Saturday February 11:
Six BRANT GEESE were seen in the Community Park at Parksville.

FRIDAY February 10:
Five DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen at Hemer Park--two at the marsh and
three at Holden Lake as well as nine TRUMPETER SWANS--seven at the marsh and
two at Holden Lake, along with HOODED and COMMON MERGANSERS were seen at
Hemer Provincial Park in Cedar.

Thursday February 09:
Twenty LONG-TAILED DUCKS, one GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE and ten SNOW GEESE
were seen near the point at Deep Bay.
A SNOWY OWL, a SHORT- EARED OWL and WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were seen at the
Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
A TURKEY VULTURE was spotted behind Northfield Road in Nanaimo.
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS are coming to feeders in the 2000 block of Kawartha
Place in Nanaimo.

Tuesday February 07:
Two BALD EAGLES were spotted flying above Lanyon Drive in Parksville.

Monday February 06:
Two AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, a TOWNSENDS WARBLER and ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was seen
in a yard in the 200 block of Dawkins Lane in Nanaimo.

Sunday February 05:
A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was seen visiting a suet feeder in the 600 block of
Drake Street in Nanaimo.
