A lot of times here we just say a male was "displaying" or "diving"
without explaining what it entails I think. I was watching it this
morning about 8AM. A juv and an adult female were sitting in the plum
tree while a male displayed and "barked" above them. (Anna's). The male
wandered off and the other two chased all around the yard and my back
porch, including cheking out the human watching them through the window
glass from a few feet away. It's amost funny watching a male anna's
diving at everything that moves but I'm sure he's dead serious. I
remember reading somewhere that if hummingbirds were the size of ravens
it wouldn't be safe to go outside. It is a scary thought...
