Today I made a trip down to the Rochester area to look for the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and was not disappointed. I noticed the bird when I was about 100 yards north of the Lewis/Thurston county line sign on Independence Road. The hawk was west of Independence Road across a field in some deciduous trees. I had excellent views of the bird (with a scope), from 8:45 to 9:15 am, as it sat and preened. I then spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon birding at the Nisqually NWR. Additional highlights of the trip were:

SNOWY OWL - Nisqually NWR (very nice looks - with scope)

LINCOLN SPARROW - Independence Road (at Red-shouldered Hawk site)

PEREGRINE FALCON - Nisqually NWR

AMERICAN KESTREL - Nisqually NWR

HUTTON'S VIREO - Nisqually NWR

WESTERN GULL - Nisqually NWR

Cheers and good birding
