Subject: [Tweeters] Snowy Owls at Skagit Game Range

Hello Tweeters,

I spent a few hours today on Fir Island, mostly at the Skagit Game Range. I
found 7 Snowy Owls there, a few more than I expected. They were all out
near the west end of the main dike, perched on various logs and stumps, and
at one point were all visible in a single scan. Three were sitting
together, just across the South Fork of the Skagit River. All were
gorgeous, and I got to see one bird, which appeared to be an adult, fly
around over the tidelands for a few minutes.

Other birds at the Game Range included a Peregrine, two Greater Yellowlegs,
five Barn Swallows, and several actively hunting Cooper?s Hawks. There were
good numbers of sparrows, including about 20 Lincoln?s. The bulk of the
Snow Goose flock was very close to Mann Road, and was attracting a lot of
attention from photographers (who kindly appeared to stay along the road and
out of the fields).

Good birding,

Matt Dufort
