Hi Tweeters,

This morning, on NPR To The Point, Warren Olney interviewed a number of
people regarding the spread of H5N1 in wild birds.?Laurie Garret,
author of The Coming Plague made a prediction that the virus will
arrive this spring in North America via Siberia on the Pacific flyway
through Alaska and Canada via the Atlantic Flyway and through Greenland
and Canada from Europe via the Atlantic flyway.?

?She also lamented the fact that scientists worldwide have not taken
advantage of the networks of amateur birders to document the spread of
the virus, especially in Africa and Europe.

?Her book which, was written ten years ago, made many predictions
regarding new and emerging diseases.?Most of these have come true, so
it will be interesting to see if she is right about when H5N1 does
arrive in North America.
