Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday February 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On February 17 a EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE was seen in mid-town Malin. The
FALCATED DUCK continues to be seen along Hwy 99W north of Eugene. The bright
male TUFTED DUCK is still on Meares Lake west of Tillamook.

Very large numbers of ROBINS are being reported from both sides of the
Cascades. Conspicuous movements of TREE and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS and
SANDHILL CRANES were reported during the week. RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS are now
moving north along the coast, reaching Astoria by February 20. PINE SISKINS
are now moving into the Willamette Valley.

Three SNOWY OWLS are still being seen at the South Jetty of the Columbia
River. On February 16 an EMPEROR GOOSE was at Pistol River north of
Brookings. There are now three EMPEROR GEESE near Astoria.

On February 18 a RAVEN was at Smith/Bybee Lakes in North Portland. A
probable GOSHAWK was there February 20. A male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was
seen February 19 on the Glass Plant Road Pond in Northeast Portland. On
February 16 an adult light morph HARLAN?S HAWK was at the Portland Airport.
Several SHORT-EARED OWLS have been seen there during the week. There is now
a COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD coming to a feeder in SW Portland. On February 18 a
GLAUCOUS GULL was at the Fernhill Wetlands. PURPLE FINCHES are now being
seen in Eugene. At Kirk Pond near the Fern Ridge Dam February 22 was a flock
of 2000 AMERICAN WIGEONS with nine EURASIAN WIGEONS and one hybrid with
them.
