If you are looking for a weekend rare birding adventure you could do
worse that going after the three Emperor Geese found by Mike Patterson
a few days ago. We found them this morning in exactly the same place
they were last seen yesterday by someone from Seaside, OR. This
morning at 10 AM they were breast deep in tall grass 100 yards NE of
where Wireless Rd takes a right turn from going east to going south,
This is just south of Astoria. Go south across the smaller bridge over
Youngs Bay/River and then east on Wireless.

This was the first place we checked at 8 AM and it was gooseless. We
then headed SE along the Youngs River for about four miles as far as
Capp Road where we found a flock of perhaps 500-1000 various Canadians
+ one Snow + one Brant + one Eurasian Wigeon.

Wednesday we had no luck in our attempt to scare up a Wrentit at
Coffenbury lake. This is as far north as this species gets. It seems
they are too wimpy to fly across the Columbia River into Washington.
