Hi Tweeters,
We have been keeping suet out and occasionally dry corn and the jays have been hanging around the yard. I count about 6 at a time. They have been surrounding the yard and calling much of the day.

Yesterday I heard one making the Red Tailed Hawks call in a hemlock tree. Then I noticed he had a beak full of nesting material and he flew into a cedar tree nearby. A few minutes later the male flew over to the female near the nest site with suet in his beak and fed her. This must be a mating ritual for jays? Have any of you seen this behavior before?

It looks like the hanky panky has begun for the jays.
