Hi Tweeters,

I drove down to Wireless Rd. just south of Astoria today with my son Deyland in quest of the Emperor Geese that were spotted there. We arrived around 11:00 and stayed for about one hour, but no Emperor Geese were seen. We did find two Greater White-fronted Geese on the edge of a small flock of Canada Geese. There was a White-tailed Kite flitting about the field toward the southern end of Wireless Rd.
We saw lots of raptors on the drive, including a Bald Eagle sitting on a pier in downtown Astoria.
On the return drive, we went to Independence Rd. near the Thurston/Lewis County border to see if the Red-shouldered Hawk was about. Again, no luck, but we did see another White-tailed Kite (our consolation bird of the day) as well as a Northern Harrier, Bald Eagle, and an American Kestrel, all within a few miles of where the Red-shouldered Hawk has been hanging out.

Good Birding
