Tweets,

This morning it really seemed like spring had arrived. For the second night running a Western Screech-Owl has been tooting just outside my bedroom window and the sporadic Barred Owl hooting gave way early this morning to a raucous duet. Then, as it got light, not one but two Red-breasted Sapsuckers started drumming from competing phone poles out at the street, first I've heard them since last fall. Question: Do just males do that rattatattattat drum or both males and females? Is it a pair conversing or two males asserting themselves? Last year a pair did nest in the ravine behind the house.
