Tweets,
Seattle's CBC was yesterday. The weather miraculously cleared and we enjoyed mostly dry, calm, and temperate weather.
Preliminary results are in:
121 species (very slightly above our long-term average of 120), with 3 count week birds, one or more of which may prove to have been seen on count day (Red-naped Sapsucker [Discovery Park], Blue Jay [Magnolia], and the terminally elusive Brewer's Blackbird).
Best finds include a Cassin's Auklet in mid-sound (but neither Red Phalarope nor Short-tailed Shearwater from last weeks storms despite two boats out), two Rock Sandpipers on Blakely Rock and a Swamp Sparrow at Restoration Point, Greater White-fronted and Cackling Geese at the Montlake Fill and Western Meadowlarks there and on Restoration Point, two Barn Swallows at Magnuson Park, and a Green Heron and four Redheads in Medina and Kirkland.
Thanks to Seattle Audubon for a great potluck and to the 100+ observers.
Final results will be reported in the February EarthCare.
Gene Hunn.
