Hello all,
On this 50 degree bright beautiful January day a group of birders walked
around Bennington Lake just east of Walla Walla and found:
Least Sandpiper - 1 basic plumage bird appeared after we had walked around
the lake. Double checked to be sure but it was a Leastie on the 4th of
January - a surprise!!
Barn Owl - 2 birds
Long-eared Owl - 3 birds in different places
Great Horned Owl - only 1 - have had 2 or 3 for the past 8 weeks
Northern Saw-whet Owl - 1 bird roosting in the Russian Olives on the upper
trail just north of the parking lot.
Townsend's Solitaire - 6 birds - tooting and singing
Bewick's Wren - 6 birds - singing like spring!!
Common Mergansers - 10 birds
Canada Goose - many
White-fronted Goose - 1
Cackling Goose - 1
Cooper's Hawk - 1 adult
Those were the highlights.
Later, MerryLynn
