As for Acorn Woodpeckers, my most frequent encounters were on Fort Huachuca; around the oaks at the old historical cemetary. They were frequently seen clambering on bird feeders in the nearby officers' housing area too. But I never saw them farther downslope, where the married enlisted quarters were. They seemed to be very much tied to the oak belt.
I also saw them above Rustler Park in the Chiricahuas, up in the pines.
