The gulls were sure out in force on the western end of Wenzel Slough Rd. this afternoon. In the area of the Goeres farm, there were several large groups of gulls. Mew Gulls definitely were the most common. Scanning some of the groups yielded one immature Glaucous Gull. I'm guessing its a 2nd winter bird. The paleness of the plumage really stood out compared to the other gulls it was near. Not to mention its large size.

Also, today at Vance Creek county park I found an interesting loon swimming and diving on the pond nearest the airport (south side of Wenzel Slough Rd.). I am not so sure on the ID, but I'm heavily leaning towards a juvenile Red-throated Loon. It is a smallish size loon, gray neck with a hint of red on the throat (lighting wasn't great), slender gray bill, and it was holding its head with the bill angled up. It just seems like an odd place for a Red-throated Loon.
