Hey gang,

Got up before dawn this morning (pretty easy since dawn was at 7:57am) and headed down to the Montlake Fill and Center for Urban Horticulture (aka CUH). Absolutely stunningly bright and beautiful morning! Made my eyes hurt, it was so bright. Anyway, ended a two hour walk with some 53 species (if you include Rock Pigeon, European Starling and domestic goose).

Best birds would have to be the first Barn Swallow of the year, seen winging it over the CUH, headed north, believe it or not. It did swoop a little, so I assume it was hunting insects as it flew, but mostly headed straight north. Also saw a female Common Goldeneye (likely the same one we counted on the CBC last weekend), a juvenile Bald Eagle (again, likely same bird as last week), and a single Slaty-colored Junco amongst a couple of dozen Oregon Junco cousins. Another good bird was the Western Meadowlark at the Fill. I almost stepped on the poor thing, as I stepped off the main path to let a couple of joggers go by! The bird watched me for a couple of moments, hopped along the ground and then flew off across the Fill to the west. Even stranger today is that I accidentally found a geo-cached item. Brought it home, am putting something in it, and then taking it back to where I found it. What a great way to start my day! Now I'm gonna watch some football and then go congrat!
ulate the
UW Women's Volleyball team at Hec Edmundson Pavilion at 3:00. Cheers y'all!
