My first bird this year was a crow, and since then I've seen most of the regulars. I'm determined to beat my dismal 2005 yard race total of 22. Saturday we did the bird census at Discovery Park, on the Wolf Creek trail, and we enjoyed very nice birding: lots of kinglets, chickadees, wrens, Anna's, even a sapsucker, and an accipiter we tentatively identified as a sharp-shinned (tiny head). On my way home to Northgate, I nearly went off the Ballard bridge when an adult PEREGRINE FALCON soared over the car in front of me, eastbound across the bridge. Then at 85th and Greenwood, a flock of rock doves wheeled frantically through the sky, and I saw the accipiter exercising them (guessing a Cooper's). I need more experience with both these birds!
